Protection is theatre
My OS, Subverge has no users nor permissions not because I couldn't implement them but because I don't want to. The reason why different rings (ring 0, ring 3 etc) exist is because in an OS like GNU/Linux, you need the OS for your daily work. You don't need my OS for work nor do you lose anything from my OS not having protection. I am not saying Linux is "bad" per se, in fact I think Linux is amazing, I personally use Exherbo. But I think more people especially in OsDev should stop worrying so much about protection, your OS isn't going to be daily driven most likely, and that's a good thing, it means you can experiment, see A hobby OS is allowed to be impractical. I think the points in Not a daily driver make sense too.
